Hello everyone,
My concern isn't about technical details but more about getting a fair price. My in-laws considered selling an old Dell PC without even knowing its condition. When I got it, I noticed the floppy drive was outdated. I plan to restore it and test it out. It has a Pentium 4 processor with integrated graphics.
If it functions well, what would you consider a reasonable price on FB Marketplace? I also have the monitor and keyboard. My estimate is between $25 and $75. However, I don’t want to overpromise. If it’s not worth much, I’d still consider donating it to the local buy nothing group for the town—just because I’m eager to work on a vintage machine and give it a new life.
Please share your thoughts.
Those OEM machines from the Pentium 4 period aren't very valuable. On eBay they're often marketed as "retro XP gaming rigs." They also have outdated capacitors—look for swollen units or crusty orange residue. Some Dimension towers came with standard mATX boards and typical power supply slots, making them potential candidates for a quiet spare PC case.
I'm looking forward to restoring it since modern parts would fit well, which means I might keep it for later use instead of selling it right away. Thanks for letting me know about the capacitors—I'll make sure to check it carefully. Given its age, this feels more like a fun project than a quick profit opportunity.
