Hi everyone, I recently received an MBP from 2021 that had never been used or charged. When I tried to power it on, it only worked with the charging cable connected and then it would crash and display a black screen as soon as I unplugged it. I took it to an Apple store, which told me the battery was in deep sleep mode and suggested replacing it. I’m considering the voltage might have dropped too much during storage, preventing any charging. They quoted around $300 for a replacement, but I’m not comfortable with Apple’s approach or their business practices. Do you know of any method to bypass the charge protection or manually recharge the battery by opening the case? Thanks to all!

It's still covered under warranty. After that, Icons has a tutorial, and most repair shops can handle the fix.

Great choice! I discovered an ifixit battery swap kit for roughly $100. Unfortunately, the battery isn’t covered under warranty. Repair shops typically either replace the battery or disable the deep sleep feature. Let me know if you need more details!

They likely have a method to restart things, but if the cells aren't working right, it probably means damage has occurred. Fixing capacity issues might end up costing more than solving the problem.
