Hello everyone, I bought a used 6800 XT and the fans are completely inactive. They barely spin when the PC powers on. During gameplay the GPU gets too hot and causes performance issues. I've attempted several fixes: moving the GPU out of its PCIe slot and power connectors, checking the PSU cables, uninstalling drivers using DDU and reinstalling via AMD Adrenaline, adjusting fan curves to 100% in Afterburner and Adrenaline, turning off the zero-speed fan mode, ensuring no blockages and confirming fans move freely when shifted. Connectors appear properly seated. I also reinstalled the old GPU which now works fine with spinning fans and full control in Afterburner. I’m considering a refund but want to double-check. Any advice or additional steps you recommend would be appreciated.

Specs: Windows 10 10.0.19045, MSI B550 Pro, CPU Ryzen 5 5600, GPU AMD Radeon 6800 XT, PSU Rogstrix 750W, RAM G.Skill Ripjaws V 32GB (2x16GB), DDR4-3200 CL15, BIOS American Megatrends.

besides dismantling the GPU to confirm the fan power cable is attached, I’d start a return or refund process. If needed, I’d record a brief video of the problem so the seller has clear evidence—better safe than sorry when it comes to returns.

It seems Afterburner displays the fan speed percentage. Do you notice a value above zero when fans aren't spinning while it's managing them? Or would it work better to adjust manually using the ruler and press Apply each time you make changes? Edited June 23, 2025 by leclod

Consider connecting the GPU fans directly to the motherboard header. If needed, use a cable splitter to extend the wires. Also check if the fans are correctly linked to the GPU fan port.

GPU coolers come with a different header than regular ones, which is why a converter is necessary. (It’s quite surprising that two or three fans stop working completely at once, making it very likely they’ll all spin.) Edited June 23, 2025 by leclod

I installed it in the lower PCIe slot and the fans began operating. After moving it to the higher PCIe slot, the fans also started running there. This was the third time I placed it in that slot. I’m not sure what caused the change, but it’s good that it’s now working.
