Mobo: ASUS ROG X570 gaming CPU paired with AMD 5950x RAM (128GB, 4x 32GB).
RAM: 128GB with four 32GB modules (Corsair CMH128GX4M4E3200C16).
GPU: GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 3080 Ti.
Power supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000W G6.
Storage: Two Samsung 980 PRO 2TB NVMe SSDs (AMD RAID 1) and a 2TB Samsung 870 SSD.
Expansion: PCIe USB card and PCIe expansion card included.
My PC has functioned well with 64GB RAM and four 16GB modules (Corsair CMW32GX4M2Z3600C14) for years. However, with my current workload it’s struggling with memory usage. I upgraded to 128GB RAM and reset CMOS, but it still freezes during startup—showing a spinning window and failing to load.
I updated the BIOS to version 5103, attempted DOCP profile, and tried booting at 2133Mhz with VSOC set to 1.1V, yet nothing works. It runs smoothly with four 16GB sticks and even two 32GB modules. But combining three 32GB and four 32GB sticks causes issues.
Someone suggested swapping your 5950X for a 7900X and a 2x64Gb DDR5 kit if you're looking for better performance. The 7900X costs less and handles both single-threaded and multi-threaded tasks well. It’s simpler to run a 2x64GB DDR5 setup compared to trying to fit 4x32GB DDR4 on an AM4 chipset that needs special memory controllers and a high-end board. Running four high-density DDR5 modules is tough on CPUs, so using two modules on your current setup is more practical. The 5950X often struggles with 4x32GB configurations.
I purchased the full 128GB package and there was no mixing or issue.
They also have a background beyond just AM4 or DDR4. You might want to adjust the SOC voltage and see how it affects things.
You can try to return or exchange. I personally never had a problem with running 4 sticks of Western Digital or XPG on my Ryzen 5600X computer. If you bought a kit with 4 sticks, you were expecting them to work together. So it is a valid motive to ask for refund or exchange.
Hi everyone, thanks for your guidance. After submitting a ticket with Asus, they contacted me and explained some additional steps to try. In the end, I reinstalled Windows and everything functioned properly. Since of this, I’m attributing the problems to Microsoft.
