Hello everyone! Apologies for the poor English! My daily language isn't perfect. I set up a Debian 10 with KDE Plasma on my PC: Ryzen 9 3900X Powercolor Vega 56 Red Dragon. After installing and rebooting, the system started working. However, Debian launches from the console. When trying to launch KDE with "startkde", it reports: "$DISPLAY is not set or cannot connect to the X server." I attempted to run Xorg with "startx". Once logged in as a user (including root), the command "/home/[username]/.Xauthority does not exist" appeared. Later, the log mentioned: "Cannot run framebuffer mode. Please specify busIDs for all framebuffer devices." That's everything I know. I'm looking forward to your help! Thanks to all who read this! Good luck! Thecrafterja

It seems you selected a Linux distribution that doesn’t match the Radeon graphics card’s requirements. Only Ubuntu, RH, and SUSE Enterprise support this card. These companies are collaborating on our Freedom initiative, which is unfortunate. Slackware might offer a solution since it uses rpm2txz, though the driver appears unsupported—it’s not a Debian package but a tar.xz archive.

The information provided indicates that the AMDGPU open-source driver should function with Vega 56 and be included in the kernel starting from version 4.15. Regarding Xauthority issues, several potential fixes are suggested, but none specifically address driver-related problems.

Certain distributions perform better on specific hardware. What approach do you recommend?

Thank you for your patience. I'm currently on Manjaro and haven't found a fix for the Debian issue...

The release timeline for KDE is delayed. Proper GPU drivers are required—those Debian doesn’t provide—to unlock DRM and enable a functional GUI. Follow the recommended installation guide for the latest AMD drivers on Debian 10 Buster to resolve these issues.
