Current configuration 9900ks uninstalled (last updated a year ago, officially completed) CPU cooler H110 RGB Issue: This began a few months back or possibly earlier, with one of the CPU cores reaching over 100°C in roughly 30 seconds while others stayed normal. This leads to BSOD during certain games. Solutions tried: 1) Replaced cooler and reapplied paste (Noctua Nh-1). 2) Lowered CPU clock to 4.7/4.0 AVX/4.3 cache at 1.3v → before it was 5.0/5.0 AVX/4.7 cache at 1.33 (temperature issue still unresolved). Only one core spikes to 100°C and might be causing the BSOD. Should I attempt another desoldering? My guess is the CPU's vertical orientation has gradually made the liquid metal sag from a core, leading to droop. Help needed!
Liquid metal has a short lifespan. Opt for premium paste instead. Raising the temperature slightly during operation isn't helpful compared to enduring extreme fluctuations every few years and needing to replace it.
well I got it re-delidded. Temps are back to normal. As suspected, LM was the culprit. Here is what happened. I replaced the stock 9900ks IHS with a copper IHS last year and over time, the gallium in the LM was soaked by the copper IHS and so it sorta dried out. So a reapplication of this should last much longer this time since that part is already soaked with gallium. Now my 2nd question is, does heat speed up the soaking process? If so, at what temperature does copper start soaking up gallium faster? If could see a graph of this, this would cool.
