"DEAD SPACE" 1 Remake receives an official release date and a gameplay trailer. It will launch on January 27th, 2023.
Hello PC enthusiasts,
The original DEAD SPACE 1 title is returning in a new form, built anew with the Frostbite engine.
EA's Motive Studio has shared the upcoming release schedule for their Dead Space remake, highlighting fresh gameplay for this reimagined sci-fi survival horror experience. The new version will launch on January 27th, 2023, for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
Motive confirmed the project was developed "from the ground up" using EA's Frostbite technology. Their goal was to maintain the essence of Visceral’s original Dead Space while enhancing it with improved audio and striking visuals designed to deliver a deeper sense of immersion and quality.
Below are some fresh gameplay clips from Dead Space, featuring USG Ishimura’s engine room. The footage highlights the game's eerie atmosphere and the new effects introduced in this updated version. Both EA and Motive have emphasized that the remake will not be limited to older platforms; it will exclusively support PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, excluding the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
I thoroughly enjoyed playing Dead Space 1. It stood out as the pinnacle of the series, offering a chilling experience with its unsettling ambiance and distorted enemies. I’m eager to see how EA executes this remake. It’s still a long way off, and using Unreal Engine or another modern tool would have made a big difference.
Anyway, check out this video. The Motive team presented an early glimpse of the visual transformation, updating original assets with new props, tools, environments, and more to a level of detail suited for today’s hardware and PCs.
Additionally, by integrating features such as dynamic, volumetric lighting alongside atmospheric and environmental VFX rendered in full-HDR, Dead Space enables players to explore the tense corridors and shadowy passages of USG Ishimura with unmatched immersion for the series.

“Creating this remake has been a rewarding experience for Motive, as we’re passionate fans of the franchise and aim to honor its legacy. It’s equally exciting to witness player reactions as we guide them through this development process,” said Phillippe Ducharme, Senior Producer of Dead Space.
“We’re making significant progress toward our Alpha launch and are pleased to announce the game’s release in January of next year. We’re looking forward to sharing this enhanced version with both longtime fans and newcomers, ensuring the original experience shines even more in this updated form.”
I appreciate how you highlight PC first instead of last, as they often do.
It’s interesting they’re already talking about a release date, considering how demanding Frostbite can be to work with. I wouldn’t be too surprised if it gets delayed. Perhaps eventually they’ll add more encounters, maybe during the quieter summer release periods.
The initial title is usually remembered as the one with the most atmosphere and jump scares, but I’d rather go for the second and third entries. Those had superior graphics, better mouse support, more challenging gameplay, free movement in Zero G, and enjoyable weapon crafting.
The first game could be easily defeated with a better Plasma Cutter, which would reduce the amount of decision-making and ease mental strain, making it feel less risky.
In the second game, I find it more unsettling because there were times when the lighting faded and it became hard to tell enemy positions. Even in Dead Space 3, the dungeons felt eerie, especially the final rooms with waves of enemies.
Still, I’ll always recall the chills from the original when you first meet the Leapers. My heart would race at that moment. I believe what made the first game stand out was its well-paced experience, with many quiet moments where only Isaac’s breathing and heartbeat were audible before chaos erupted. That kind of tension is crucial for creating a horror atmosphere.
Hey there, thanks for the praise. I’ve always favored PC for gaming. I haven’t owned a console before, but PC has been my go-to since I began playing, even after leaving my band. Still, in a straightforward way, PC is the better choice.
The game timeline can be adjusted, but it really depends on how development progresses. By the way, DEAD SPACE 2 is also quite solid and polished, especially with the mouse support you mentioned. DS 2 is impressive too, though I’m not sure about its creepiness—I think it might just be my personal taste.
I wonder if it’s because of the level design in DS1? I haven’t played DS3 yet, so I can’t comment on that one. But both DS1 and DS2 offered intense horror experiences. The weapon crafting in DS2 is definitely better than DS1, though DS1 was a bit easier to overcome compared to DS2.
I’m thinking about trying DEAD SPACE 3, but I’ll wait for STEAM’s summer sale. Is the game too tough to beat? Some people have complained online that DS3 is more demanding than before. It seems the game keeps sending waves of necromorphs to players!
It's refreshing to see someone other than myself is primarily a PC player. I wasn't aware you were part of a band, what instrument do you play and what kind of music? The industry is tough to succeed in, with plenty of challenges to steer clear.
It might be possible to improve, but it's reassuring that they've set a specific release date. This could indicate they have Frostbite specialists available, since EA owns DICE, the studio behind Frostbite. The initial version might feel more intense due to jump scares, while the others pose greater combat risks, depending on difficulty settings and weapon crafting skills.
Try Dead Space 3 without hesitation. It received criticism mainly for its quicker pace and occasional enemy waves, plus some awkward dialogue (around 10%). Even with strong weapon crafting abilities—more detailed in 3 than 2—familiarity with enemy encounters and tactics is essential. There are moments, like the one near the planet where you can bypass Feeders by sneaking, that make it challenging. Alternatively, retreating to a safer area and dealing with enemies from above is simpler, and you can easily loot them.
Honestly, I didn't expect to enjoy 3 right away, mainly because weapon crafting was more complex and I feared struggling. After testing the Weapon Crafting Arena, I discovered useful features and learned how to build weapons effectively. Players who enjoy DS3 often overlook the importance of collecting artifacts, as unlocking top weapon upgrades can make you nearly invincible.
Still, acquiring weapon upgrade components requires scavenging and dodging enemies. One standout feature is the Chain Gun, found behind a panel on a derelict ship in Zero Gravity. It involves navigating mines and avoiding enemy fire, plus shooting darting Lurkers. Another notable part is the Electrocution Module in level 9, which transforms the Plasma Cutter into a powerful weapon capable of electrocuting multiple foes at once. Crafting it requires first making the Plasma Cutter into a Rivet Gun, which can be tricky at first. Once mastered, it becomes a useful tool, though it can be tedious to use due to its ease of defeating waves.
There are also useful caches scattered around the planet that you should collect before heading there. Whether you tackle the dungeons yourself is up to you—they offer the most challenging rewards, such as high-grade circuits. I’m familiar with the game well enough to offer guidance on scavenging, crafting, and enemy encounters.
The side quests are worth completing: Supply Depot and Disposal Services are the most demanding, but they provide essential S.C.A.F. artifacts and the Electrocution Module. Once you obtain the first artifact, it becomes clear that glowing lights indicate its location. The circuits gathered from these items should be sufficient to finish the game.
I shared a video from earlier showing my Chain Gun setup with an Acid Bath attachment, including the components and high-grade circuits used. Before you run out of parts, the Plasma Cutter, Line Gun, or Shotgun can handle most tasks.
I had experience in several METAL bands, specifically within the THRASH/Speed METAL scene. I’m still active in the scene, though my current focus is on production and mixing in our studio, and writing lyrics when necessary. Time has been limited lately. I previously played double bass drums and rhythm guitar, which was the end of my musical journey.
To be honest, if you asked me, I wouldn’t consider myself a PRO or a highly skilled gamer like others. I’d rather identify as a musician, even though my gaming abilities are limited! 😳
I still play games casually—mainly FPS and some TPP/RPG titles—and I learned a lot when I first started on PC. That part was off-topic, and explaining everything here is challenging.
Let’s concentrate on the DEAD SPACE series. Thanks for the DS3 weapon Crafting Video. I’m planning to try it soon. Currently, I have a lot of tasks pending. From your description, it seems we’ll need to gather a lot of loot in this game. Also, by the way, are the dungeons meant for tutorials or just optional?
For scavenging, I think it’s worth exploring some of the dungeons. Artifacts are likely to be found there, though high-grade circuits are probably more common. I just hope the weapon crafting doesn’t become too complicated for me either.
Appreciate your help. I’ll definitely follow your advice and ask for hints if I get stuck or if the game proves too difficult. Cool! I’ll remember this. Also, which weapon is the most powerful in this game? Which one do you use most often to defeat the enemies? Which weapon have you found most effective for completing the game? Remember, each enemy has different weaknesses, so not every weapon will win easily.
The Chaingun/Shotgun combo with the Acid Bath attachment (featured in the video I shared) stands out as the top choice. It’s the weapon I rely on most. You might also consider using the Electrocution Module with the Rivet Gun, which is a one-handed tool crafted from a standard Plasma Cutter.
Enemy vulnerabilities in Dead Space are mainly found in limb parts, so targeting the same limb repeatedly can quickly disable them. Other weapons offer strong knockback or can deliver lethal torso hits, though each comes with its own downsides. For example, the Force Gun excels at knocking enemies down but doesn’t kill them outright. Some weapons produce powerful beams that can kill on a single hit, but they demand precise aiming and often require charging, with slower reloads on certain models.
I also created a video a while back demonstrating the Mjolnir. It performs well in practice, but its effectiveness depends heavily on managing waves. The Weapon Crafting Arena appears to focus more on moderate waves rather than the intense ones found in the actual game. This clip also explains how to reach the Weapon Crafting Arena via the menu.
Among one-hit weapons, the Mjolnir was my top pick, but I found it tiring to recharge during waves. It can lead to being overwhelmed. In this game, having a reliable, fast-firing weapon is essential for success.
I was curious about the specific purpose of this Force Gun. I assumed it could also eliminate enemies, as in DS2 it functions through an alt-fire mode. Since simply knocking them down would cause them to respawn, switching weapons was necessary. However, the Force Gun operates more like a shotgun.
The Force Gun isn't exactly similar to a shotgun; it mostly just propels them over. Yes, you can be deadly with it if you attach it properly, but the actual killing comes from the attachment itself. It requires more shots to achieve the same effect compared to a shotgun. Its low damage comes from its broad spread, making it ideal for situations where you're surrounded—allowing you to switch weapons or retreat.
Absolutely. It functions like a shotgun, though it's not identical. Those attachments are responsible for the damage. However, with the Force gun, it pushes and knocks enemies away.
