No issues with previous use. After the HDD failure this morning, I can't start up anymore. I see a warning about over current on my USB device! The system will power off after 15 seconds to safeguard the mainboard. Testing shows: new GPU only, 24-pin and 2x4 pins connected. All USB, PCIe, and SATA ports are empty. Checked every pin and port, blew air through them, tried different power sources. I flashed CMOS twice by shorting the pins—still stuck. Everything seems intact, but I’m worried about needing a new AM4 motherboard soon. My last BIOS update was months ago. Could removing the CMOS battery help? No visible damage found. Before purchasing a new board, I’m seeking advice. Maybe confirming I’ve been cleared by MSI would help. (Second time this happened, the first was with a 6-year-old GPU) Spoiler: it’s still unclear.

Only two recognized solutions exist. 1. Swap out the board. 2. Hopefully try a BIOS reset. This involves a complete CMOS wipe and flashing to a factory-set BIOS, followed by upgrades once the problem is resolved. GL.

No, the overcurrent error stops the process from starting or finishing.
Isn't flashback when you strip the board of everything except power. Then plug the USB in the flash port and hold the button for a couple seconds and then wait till its done flashing. Or something along those lines? I don't think you'll have video to see that message during the recovery method unless there's actually an issue with that specific flash port. You have a 50% chance a bios flash recovers the board.
You can keep the CPU, GPU, and RAM powered on. You might notice some screen output, yes? I haven’t tried the flashback function before; I’m using the UEFI GUI for updates instead.
