I powered down my PC and it still wouldn’t start. The fans started but didn’t activate. After replacing everything except the CPU and motherboard, I removed the cooler and checked—any chance? Or is it too hot to salvage? I also tried moving the CPU to another machine and it worked fine there. Now I’m going to test the motherboard.

It seems the TIM wasn’t centered initially, so for better results next time spread it across the CPU’s surface instead of applying it thickly. A light layer works well. When installing the cooler, ensure even pressure and avoid letting it tilt to one side or the other.
