I’ve chosen to retire my i7-8086K and display it alongside the 8086 on the case. I explored various DDR5 kits, weighing 64GB versus 32GB configurations. Ultimately, I opted for the latter. As I examined different memory options, timings, and die types—Samsung, Hynix, Micro—I didn’t aim for speeds above 7000 MHz, but I did focus on fine-tuning memory timing. On my four DDR4 sticks, I upgraded from XMP DDR4-3000 CL14 (Samsung) to DDR4-3400 CL14, adjusting primary, secondary, and tertiary settings manually. For the Ryzen 5800X build, I selected a Micron/Crucial DDR4-3600 CL16-18-18-38 kit with EXPO enabled. In short, I don’t think memory frequency is too critical for X3D chips—manufacturing details and die type likely won’t matter much. For instance, the G.Skill F5-6400J3239G16GX2-TZ5RW kit (DDR5-6400 CL32-39-39-102 1.40V) looks promising; feel free to share any advice. Thanks!

I learned that the 9000 series works fine at 6400Mhz without any signal quality problems.

Modern DDR5 setups tend to avoid using multiple sticks, so this scenario is unlikely. I’d opt for the cheapest 64GB package (around 6000/C30) and just keep it running as needed.

It's essentially a risk between the chip and the board about what you can achieve. Honestly, the latest 6000CL26 sets would be my choice now.

They rely on the same IOD, so most of the memory work centers around the main section. The 9000x3D sections have sufficient cache, making memory accesses infrequent and reducing latency issues. Some say the 9000 series CCDs are slightly more memory constrained, but the cache makes a big difference.

I initially assumed the 9000-series could handle DDR-6400 without losing the 1:1 ratio. Now I’m evaluating DDR5-6000 kits. I won’t tackle the challenge of running four memory sticks stably. My FPGA testing setup with a 7900X had some problems with four sticks, but I’m considering the Gigabyte Aorus X870E Pro. Its prices—over $700 for the Aorus Master and $950+ for the Hero—are quite steep. It’s a top-tier model, not even Formula, Extreme, or Apex. (My 990FX Crosshair V Formula is still in storage.) I’ll look into it further. Thanks.

I'm testing my FCLK at 2133 with uclk and mclk set to 1:1 for the 6400 clock. It's running fine. My RAM isn't great, so I'll need to upgrade to better C26 memory.
