Your 6700k remains solid for now, but if you're planning upgrades, it's wise to hold on a bit longer. The Intel 10th gen is already out and arriving soon, while AMD Zen 3 is expected soon as well. I anticipate a modest improvement per core from Intel, but this year could see AMD surpassing both single-threaded and multi-core performance.
