DDR4 prices in 2020
No other advice—what’s happening with desktop DDR4 prices is unclear. It might drop further or rise again. I’m not sure, but someone might have an opinion.
Currently, costs have fallen noticeably. I'm weighing whether to upgrade to 32GB now that a 16GB set is available for 70 or less in certain cases. Likely, prices will rise later this year due to shortages caused by people purchasing new units like ZEN 3, GeForce 3000, and other AMD cards.
DDR5 could arrive on desktops by year-end or early 2021. However, RAM costs fluctuate significantly, like a roller coaster ride, making it wise to consider purchasing 2x32GB now or when Cyberpunk 2077 releases. It’s likely the game needs more memory than the standard 16GB.
Unlikely at all. I wouldn’t consider investing in it. Zen 3 remains DDR4. Zen 4 could possibly support DDR5 soon, but that’s around late 2021, and I’m skeptical about it happening. DDR5 isn’t even making waves in the server sector yet, and early prices will be too high for most buyers. Probably not until 2022 or 2023.
Consensus reached that DDR5 will cost a premium upon launch, as it hasn't entered the market yet. It seems likely this technology will debut on alternative systems before being adopted for PCs.
