DDR4 3600 2x16 vs 4x8
DDR4 3600 2x16 vs 4x8
In keeping with my recent pattern of having ordered something but second guessing myself after gaining a small amount of knowledge, here’s a question on memory… So I ordered a PC with 2x16 3600 MHz of ram but I’ve found some info that seems to point towards 8gb strips offering superior performance. Mostly going to use the PC for gaming so I’m wondering if it’s worth it to switch my order to 4x8gb? Will I see any noticeable improvements? I don’t mind paying the extra $60-$70 to switch it if I really would see an improvement, but if it really doesn’t matter much or the improvement would be really negligible I would just leave it as is. Thanks.
I found this information in a comparison on paper. The 4x8 configuration performs better, while the 2x16 reduces memory controller load and costs less.
There's an improvement but it's not huge. Also depends on circumstances. Won't always be obvious and it's mostly at 1080p or when severely CPU limited on purpose (1080p low settings, example).
Your GPU performs well, meaning 4x8GB could boost performance by around 10%. However, this isn't the main priority compared to choosing a solid GPU.
