Title seems a bit unclear. Customer reported an SSD-locked laptop and needs user data transferred to an external drive for a replacement system. Booting the SSD on another machine reveals everything is present and readable, yet copying to the external drive shows correct size but empty folders. Suspected security issues, though unfamiliar. Any advice to make the data visible would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Jordan

I've frequently relied on a live Linux bootable on a USB flash drive to transfer user data from a failing drive to a working backup drive. Perhaps give it a try?

SSD works just fine; the issue is the end user can't link an M.2 SSD to their replacement system, and an M.2 to a USB adapter isn't affordable. I'm considering a migration and will check the outcome. Thanks!
