Darks Souls 3 parry?
Darks Souls 3 parry?
I've played many Souls games, but Dark Souls 3 is a different beast. My character keeps doing this awkward shield move when I try to parry, which is really annoying. I'm using a PS4 controller for those who want to know. I'm looking for tips on how to make the correct defensive stance and the specific wrist motion for the parry animation, not just the basic shield action.
Which shield are you playing with? A few have different abilities and may not block hits completely. It seems like the problem might be related to timing or FPS performance, or maybe your controller is lagging.
you have to use either a small shield or a medium shield to parry. also some shields have special moves attached to them, like that shield bash. which shield are you trying to parry with? might be one of those shields. ideally small shields parry best. medium shields work too but it's slightly slower. there's also one glove weapon that can parry slightly quicker than a shield ever could. the buckler is one shield that can parry quite well. think it's available early on. i don't think there are different stances to a shield. either you hide yourself with the shield or you're not. though with spears you can have your shield up and use your spear at the same time.
Greatshields aren't designed for parrying; they usually come with a damaging shield attack or a special ability on their LT skill. If you're new to the game, you probably haven't even seen a greatshield yet, let alone used its strength. Most medium shields (those featuring a grey shield icon) can parry, but they tend to have a noticeable delay compared to similar shields in DS1. I struggle to land any parries at all, even after playing through the game multiple times. Smaller shields offer faster parrying, and I found success with certain weapon builds (Uchigatana, Black Blade, Chaos Blade) by holding LT and pressing RT during two-handed play.
Oh no, sorry about the delayed response—I got completely sucked in by the game! I managed to catch that segment when I finally got my grass crest shield (or maybe glass?).
Is it just me, or are there way too many bonfires? Yesterday I went through 4-5 new ones in a row without getting killed, especially in the swampy area. Is this normal? It feels easier now.
At least there are more new things to try, which adds variety to the gameplay. Some of these features are a bit outside my usual playstyle, but hey, that’s okay!
