I mentioned multiplayer but gaming laptops usually don't use USB-C charging since they require higher power. You'd also need to transport many batteries to run several machines simultaneously for any decent duration, along with heavy cooling in the hub and dealing with devices that have failed due to improper power delivery—you'd need absolute certainty you're correct. Don't forget the large power bricks required for the hub, and of course, using USB-C restricts cable length to the laptop itself. It doesn't seem like a sensible approach because it would be bulky, costly, and limit flexibility.

I’ll be testing prototypes for some time now. I anticipate using various models depending on the goal. I’m aware of an IC that consumes minimal power and works with 5V. There’s a 5-port switch controller, and I’ll probably connect USB-to-PHY ICs to the connected device. A "Master" port will supply power to the switch IC. Another concept involves offering power through both USB and PoE/PoE+ options.

This scenario could be highly valuable in a niche situation where no existing solutions exist—such as with 5Gbit or 10Gbit Ethernet. Today’s devices are limited to USB 3.1 GbE at up to 5Gbps, which caps performance around 3.4MB/s. Introducing an internal switch supporting 5Gb or 10Gb NICs would offer a significant leap for rapid data transfers. I’m not sure if these components are already available, but if they were, the development cost would likely be substantial due to current market limitations.

It’s unlikely you’ll succeed without proper understanding. Still, I hope you’re prepared to invest effort beyond just purchasing components and setting up connections in software like Altium.
