I recently acquired some components from a friend and upgraded my computer. Since then, it has been struggling in every game I play, with reported specs and FPS below expectations. My new PC specifications are: CPU i7 7700K, Mobo Gigabyte Z270 HD3, RAM HyperX DDR4 2133MHz, GPU GTX 660, SSD 256GB M.2 SATA from a Dell laptop, HDD from my previous build, PSU BeQuiet 550W (or higher), and an old PC with CPU i7 3770, DDR3 8GB, GTX 660, 128GB Sandisk SATA 2.5" HDD, 2TB Seagate HDD, and PSU Dell prebuilt. I've tested Minecraft 150/40 GTA Online and other games, but haven't tried many others yet. The GPU temperatures stay under 75 and CPU performance is around 90. I've changed drivers from 2017, 2018, and the current version. Any assistance would be really helpful as I'm feeling lost.

You didn’t fully reinstall the OS, so the system might still be using remnants of the old setup. The CPU running at 90°C suggests overheating, possibly due to poor cooling or a failing component.

The SSD runs a brand new Windows 10 setup, while the HDD remains solely for storage with no updates since the previous PC. The CPU temperature peaks at 90°C during load, usually around 40°C when idle.

It reached 90°C during a game while around 20 Chrome tabs were running. This happened despite using a $30 air cooler with one fan in a room at 30°C, which was 40°C outside.

I’m expecting a higher-quality cooler. My 9900K reaches 96°C during synthetic stress, but stays below that when used normally without heavy AVX workloads.

Considering the delay... Should I enable VSync? And honestly, I really need improved cooling. 90 degrees is too high for a GPU, especially with my 5900X Ryzen.

Turning off VSync didn’t help much. I’ll check for better cooling options. Most of the time during gameplay the CPU stays around 70°C or 80°C, and it hit 90°C after about 30 minutes when I left it running.

Select a recognized benchmark for comparison, such as 3D Mark or Unigine benchmarks, and execute a comprehensive test. Analyze each part of the score and check it against public records. This approach helps identify which element is affecting performance. In your scenario, the GPU should be operating near its full capacity because the CPU is significantly more powerful.

I've tested both Cinebench and Unigine Heaven 4.0 separately. The GPU scored 653 at high resolution 1080p, which is normal. In Cinebench, the CPU stayed under 86°C for 10 minutes and scored 5768, close to the typical average. It seems there are no thermal problems. Other suggestions?
