Current issue: PC enters repair loop during installation.
Hello, I tried to increase the clock speed of my PC but it didn’t work. Even basic games ran slow. Now it’s stuck in a repair cycle and nothing functions. I went into the BIOS (legacy) and reset everything, but it still doesn’t respond. I also removed the battery from the motherboard to reset the CMOS. I’ve tried reinstalling Windows and resetting the PC, but those attempts failed. I’m really confused about what to do next. Please help...
Old low-end AMD systems. I’m not familiar with them in detail. But generally, have you reset your CMOS manually? If you only changed BIOS settings to remove them and restore the original, then you might need a previous BIOS version. If not, you likely had to install an older BIOS file. That’s why overclockers often use boards with CMOS backup or similar features. I don’t know if your board supports that. Edited June 3, 2021 by Bombastinator
I think I reset the CMOS by removing the battery from the motherboard.
This method effectively confirms the outcome. Others suggest disconnecting the device, removing the battery, and letting any remaining power dissipate. Usually it works right away, though occasionally it doesn’t. Doing this step still resulted in no results for me.
And connected to what was said—you took it off the power source when you changed the battery. That’s correct. The main goal is to keep it powered so settings remain intact instead of resetting them. For certain boards, you can trigger a default boot using two approaches: either repeatedly press and hold the power button until the system fails to boot and enters a default mode, or briefly disconnect the power supply for a short time after pressing the button, which also registers a failed start. Try these steps several times and observe the outcome. It seems your issue leans more toward a Windows problem rather than a BIOS fault, possibly due to OS corruption from any modifications that disrupted the boot manager or configuration. That’s why repair attempts usually fail.
Could you clarify what you mean by "fix the OS"? Are you looking for solutions to repair your operating system or troubleshoot issues?
You're thinking it's Windows 10, right? Here are some options you can consider, starting with the simplest: a full system reinstall. Your choice depends on what works best for you.
