I acquired two 8GB kits from a friend. The newest compatible Intel chipset I haven’t explored since the Ryzen buzz is this one. I’m thinking about putting together a system with an Asus toughened motherboard if it’s in stock.

About 1151 models are compatible (though it prefers DDR3). 1150 was the final model with complete DDR3 support. Nowadays, I’d rather upgrade the RAM instead of rebuilding an older setup.

Choose a mainboard with four slots for full RAM customization. It supports 2133 MHz at 1.5V without needing higher voltages. The newest Intel socket that accommodates DDR3 is LGA 1151 (the older types are still compatible). For LGA 1150 models you can find Z87/Z97 boards that go beyond DDR3 1600. Alternatively, build a media PC using an FM2 platform, which works well with APU-based systems and benefits from the APU's DDR3 support.

However, on h/q it wouldn't exceed DDR3 1600, and Gen 7 uses a 1155 socket on the desktop.

I don’t rely on Intel for my primary system. I’m constructing builds using affordable, second-hand components at no expense. Prices can vary based on condition and worth.

During those times at Ivy Bridge, I relied on my Z77 sabertooth.

It's version 7 LGA 1155, and you need the newest chipset for your DDR3-2133.

You might consider pairing a Z97 Asus TUF thermal board with an i5 5600X processor.
