Current file size of the static pagefile
I’m aiming for a fixed-size static pagefile for your Windows 10 PC. For a 16GB RAM system, a common recommendation is around 40,960 bytes. Think about that amount for your 4TB drive. Also, you mentioned not wanting Windows to handle this automatically—so you want full control.
I've consistently enabled manual mode on all my PCs. The settings require at least 2GB, with a default range of 8 to 16GB, and a maximum of 32GB. I used 16GB in the past, but now prefer 32GB, and eventually 64GB as I go. I have ample SSD space, yet it rarely gets utilized. I simply launch the app and let it run.
Turning off paging might not improve performance and could cause stability problems. With 32 GB of RAM, the need for a page file is minimal, so Windows likely won’t struggle with it.
The stability problems might stem from the fact that the pagefile isn't being used for in-memory operations. This causes the system to move data out of RAM and into the pagefile when it's not immediately needed, freeing up physical RAM for active tasks. While this isn't inherently bad, it can lead to increased usage of your physical memory.
