I’m thinking about using a simple DIY approach instead of buying standoffs. Just placing the board in a box with a paper layer should be enough. If you’re careful and clean it well, the risk of shorting is low. Option two with a popsicle stick frame could work too, but go easy on it. Let me know if you need more tips!

Without them, the bottom of the board won't get enough airflow, which could cause the CPU to overheat. Smart idea!

If airflow is the main concern, then option 2 could also work. The prices on Amazon and Newegg seem high, but I only need a few standoffs.

It might be tricky, but you could try adding holes in the frames. I’m not confident about doing that. Do you have any screws in mind for the assembly?

I’m working with a limited number of holes. I have a razor blade and scissors; cardboard is straightforward to cut. There are still screws from the original laptop, which I’d like to reuse if possible. Getting them into popsicle sticks could be tricky, but they’re made from relatively soft wood, so I might persuade them to pass through. If not, I can drill a few starter holes or use a tiny screwdriver head to push them in. I also have many more screws from other computer disassemblies, so if needed I can find longer ones.
