I'm aiming to set up my own router with PFSense. My existing NIC is outdated, so I need something that handles at least 1.5 Gbps. I'm seeking suggestions and information on where to purchase these devices.

Which ports are required for dual 10Gbe SFPD+? Are you looking at a 10G baseband setup? Do you prefer DIY or ready-made solutions? What is your budget?

I need a device with RJ45 connectivity. I must retain the existing router (HH300) since it manages my TV setup. The new router I'm constructing is a DIY project, and I already have it assembled but lack a NIC. My goal is primarily to set up a firewall and possibly create VLANs later. I don’t have a large budget for the NIC, so I want to keep costs minimal.

The modem only features gigabit ports, making it impossible to exceed 1Gbps without modification or work arounds. Reach out to your ISP to explore options for a device with higher-speed ports, allowing you to utilize the existing 1.5Gb connection. What firewall settings are you considering? The built-in firewall works adequately for typical home use.

Absolutely, you don't necessarily require PFSense unless you need advanced features such as intrusion detection systems, transparent proxying, or VPN endpoints. Consumer-grade modems handle most everyday tasks effectively.

Ya Bell Canada doesn't provide any additional routers or modems, especially when discussing speeds above 1 gigabit. This seems odd given their claims. I'm putting it there mostly for the purpose of studying pfSense rather than as a must-have.

I believe the issue with skipping the HH300 could impact my Fibe TV.
