Created a fresh system using an older M.2 slot with Windows, but it fails to start.
Hello! I assembled a new system using some older components (M.2, GPU, PSU). At startup, the BIOS recognized my M.2 but it wasn’t listed as a boot option. Switching to CSM made it appear as an available boot device, yet selecting it prompted a warning: "reboot and select a proper boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key." I attempted a Windows 11 installer via USB to verify repairs, but it returned advanced settings indicating no OS found. Operating system: Windows 11 Home, 64 bit. Specifications include an Intel Core i7 13700K, MSI Pro Z790-P WiFi DDR5 RAM, Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 RAM 32GB (2x16GB) at 6000MHz, MSI MAG CoreLiquid 360R V2 M.2, SK Hynix Platinum P41 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen 4 M.2, 7,000MB/s power supply, AORUS P850W 80 Plus Gold 850W, and an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT Founders Edition BIOS (version E7E06IMS.A90). Thanks for your time and have a great day!
I faced the same problem when switching to Windows 11. Consider using a bootable USB from Windows 10 with EFI enabled and proceed from there. Eventually, I had to swap out my motherboard since it was second-hand, which allowed me to activate UEFI and install Windows 11. It might have been related to secure boot and TPM settings.
Simple fix: turn off CSM, turn on Secure Boot (and TPM) and start from a clean installation. Windows might need some adjustments when transferred between systems. Most issues can be fixed, but you’ll avoid complications if you install a brand new version. Good luck!
Hey there! I noticed another problem popped up, but everything is now fixed. I reset the BIOS to its default, then enabled CSM, turned off secure boot, saved the changes, and re-entered the BIOS just to confirm everything was correct. When I tried to boot again, the same message appeared: "reboot and select a proper boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key." I then reinstalled Windows from scratch, as suggested by @Sawa Takahashi, since I mainly use it for gaming and kept important files online. Thanks for your support!
