Not long ago, I assembled a new gaming PC (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZrQTd9). It functions properly except for a significant problem. Occasionally, the computer shuts down abruptly, and the monitor shows a black screen. I’m unable to restart it or use the power button to turn it off; I must manually switch the power supply on and off to reboot. The motherboard, a Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX, shows a red CPU indicator, suggesting a problem with my Ryzen 7 7800x3d processor. I’ve applied the latest BIOS update for the board, but the issue persisted even after that. It isn’t caused by malware, as it happened before I restored an old system image. This can occur at any time, whether during gaming or just browsing the web.

I found a similar report here, which also mentioned using AM5 and a Gigabyte motherboard—could this be a widespread concern? My goal is to avoid disassembling the system and replacing the motherboard, so I’m seeking a definitive solution or advice from others who faced the same issue.

Any guidance would be extremely helpful!

Are you certain the crashes happen entirely randomly? Perhaps they occur only during gameplay? Also, typically the PSU needs to be turned off and on to restart, which points to the PSU as the cause.

Completely random crashes could indicate an issue with the PSU, do you have any testing tools available?

How did you handle this matter? It looks like a motherboard problem again.

OCCT didn’t provide much information for me; I only set up my cables and it hasn’t worked in a few days. I’m hoping it’s a permanent issue rather than a temporary one. If it isn’t, it might be the motherboard, which you’re right about.
