Has anyone tried Wasteland Workshop yet? Thoughts??? I stopped playing after January and got back in for a short time to tackle the Automatron DLC (~3-4 extra hours). It was enjoyable, but once I finished I didn’t feel compelled to keep going. But this workshop is something else! When I first saw the announcement, I expected it to be the weakest of the three DLCs, but I became really invested and ended up starting a new game. I’ve already spent over four hours building Sanctuary, except for a few stops to get Preston and Ada. Most of the add-ons have replaced the mods I’ve been using (planters, land well for water, concrete walls, etc.). My only drawback so far is I wish they’d included a tutorial or guidance on traps, taming animals, and arena elements like Sturges does for settlement building. [Of course I used commands to help me gather building materials – after three playthroughs I think I can skip that now lol]
Not worth the price, honestly. I understand it’s not a huge deal since I bought the season pass for $30 back then, so it feels more like a casual addition than a proper DLC. Many features were already available as mods, which is good. Still, it reminds me of paying for something just to have a mod. Mods are free, after all. I appreciate the idea of building your own arena concept, but it loses its appeal quickly. Watching AI versus AI isn’t very exciting, and if I wanted to battle creatures, I could just hunt them down in the wasteland. What I’d really liked to see added were settlement themes or types. Something that lets you fill a settlement with various settlers, changing how it works. For example, assigning a faction to each location and letting their NPCs populate it—like initiates, scribes, etc. For Steel Bro fans, synths, or Institute players, raiders would be a must-have. And if you’re into it, you could have different NPCs reacting based on the faction, making each settlement unique. It would make the areas feel more alive. Still, why bother decorating a settlement with creepy items if everyone there is just farming?
It changed many of the mods I had set up, but that’s a good thing. Some were updated in a bad way or had their content altered, which affected my save files. I quickly moved to a settlement where I used mods and many structures were gone because they were removed. At least the official versions are now included, so I’m less concerned. I think they should have added more themes—there was a basic version with houses in FO3 and Skyrim. Adding mini-vault settlements would be nice too. Some of the existing ones are poorly designed or too small. Prefab vaults would be better, since most above-ground options are just holes or cellars. We really need to share our ideas with Bethside! Also, $5? This company charged $3 just for horse armor. At least the third DLC is meant to be a big update, which should help balance out the earlier content.
