Yes, it is possible to edit on Linux. You need to choose a suitable editing software that supports your Linux environment, such as GIMP for image editing or Audacity for audio. Consider the hardware requirements based on the software you use, and select a Linux distribution that matches your needs. The experience can vary; Linux offers flexibility and customization but may require more technical setup compared to Finale Cut or Adobe Premiere. Compared to those tools, Linux editing often provides a lightweight alternative with strong community support.

Do you want to edit videos? Blender is usually the tool people use for that. Comparing them depends on personal preference, and there are many different opinions.

Blender isn't typically found in most setups. Davanci is the preferred choice these days. If you've worked with Avid, Premiere or Final Cut, getting started will be straightforward. It's free in theory, though certain capabilities are restricted. I'd recommend using a distribution with the latest drivers for your GPU, CPU, and other components to maximize performance during editing.

Someone questioned its relevance, probably a video editor. It’s not the most common choice, but it’s definitely not unheard of.

Blender is mainly used for video editing, though it's not the primary tool most people rely on. Photoshop serves a different purpose. On Linux, DaVinci Resolve is popular for video editing and offers strong features with limited competition.

This suggests we might use varying meanings for the term “edit.” Your perspective could align more closely with the original poster’s than my own, making it hard to argue. I have some basic knowledge of Photoshop—it’s mostly used for retouching rather than video editing. In my search, several tools ranked as top Linux video editors, each claiming a different leader, though number two consistently stood out as Blender. Unless the first place changed, it hints at differing views on what video editing truly entails.

OP was looking at final cut and Premiere, widely used non-linear video editors that run on Windows. Davanci Resolve is the best alternative available on Linux. Most users avoid Blender for simple edits since it lacks many features found in tools built for non-linear editing, especially for 3D and VFX projects.

Are you confident about this? It doesn't seem to be leading in market share.

It's fairly recent and do I focus only on Linux or across all systems? Yeah, Davanci isn't open source.
