I’d prefer to install Linux without using a virtual machine. Since I don’t want to abandon Windows either, Boot Camp seems like the best fit for my laptop. I’m curious if closing my laptop lid will put it to sleep on a laptop setup. The function keys on my device can adjust volume and brightness—will those features work similarly on Linux? Here’s the screenshot of my laptop for reference.

It's feasible to run Linux alongside Windows. Have you picked a distribution yet? This works well on laptops. Yes Yes

I enjoy pop music as well as other genres, and I’ll check if it works immediately after downloading. If not, I’ll need to configure the settings.

Visit the Pop OS website and obtain the Pop OS ISO flash file for USB. Insert the USB into your laptop and attempt to boot from it. If it doesn’t work, revisit the BIOS settings and look for a way to install Pop OS.

No, you don’t need to go into settings to enable the sleep feature. You can usually turn it on directly from the laptop’s interface. As for mapping keys, yes—you may want to assign your preferred key (like F5 for mute) so it works smoothly without manual adjustments.

Based on my observations, this setup can vary. On my current Dell XPS I installed Ubuntu 20.04 and everything functioned flawlessly right away. It powers down smoothly and all FN keys respond correctly. The only challenge was with the fingerprint sensor; after installing and configuring Howdy, I now have a choice between facial recognition and fingerprint authentication. Earlier, I used Debian on an older HP laptop, which required significant setup and adjustments for someone who isn’t tech-savvy.

It also includes a fingerprint reader, allowing the laptop to unlock quickly just like before.
