Hello everyone, I recently bought a new laptop without Windows installed. It lacks a DVD drive and I don’t have any backup copies of Windows. You might find Dell’s used OEM versions of Windows 7 for around twenty euros online—available as a download with a key. Can I make a bootable USB from an OEM drive, or should I just get a standard USB DVD? I’m not really in need of one since my other devices work fine for CD/DVD tasks. Cheers, Jonas

This term means the software has been partially installed or verified before being fully activated, typically found only in original equipment manufacturer (OEM) versions, while other releases need additional keys during setup.

Activated in Preview mode, similar to pirated Windows versions but genuine. It's perfectly fine here and in Germany too—just don't upload, just download the legally available version.

Keep in mind it's a laptop, and the only parts you can modify are RAM, which is already at 16GB and likely fully utilized. The SSD is also unchanged, and it shouldn't cause any issues with the original manufacturer's specifications. Besides that, you won't need to download the .iso from Microsoft since you'll just use the one they provide.
