Hello everyone, I recently assembled a new PC for the first time in a while. After playing some games, I wanted to run benchmarks to compare it with my previous setup. When building this system, I chose to set the Radeon software chill setting to 60-80fps because my monitor runs at 60Hz, keeping everything smooth. I managed to play Shadow of the Tome Raider without problems, but when I turned off the chill setting and let the GPU run freely, I faced issues with SOTTR. The benchmark tool would either crash the game or force a system reboot. Event viewer only indicated an unexpected reboot. I tested the benchmarks multiple times, getting mixed results. I used the Radeon Overlay to track temperatures and power usage, but found no red flags. The CPU occasionally hit 80-82°C, while the GPU stayed below 80°C and drew no more than 260W. When I tried another game (MechWarrior 5) at full settings, it ran smoothly at around 180fps. This makes me wonder if SOTTR is the problem or if my PC has a hidden issue I need to fix. Please help!

PC specifications: ASUS ROG Strix X670E-E with Ryzen 5 7600 (non-x) and stock cooler, 32GB G.Skill Trident Z5 DDR5 6000 (2x16GB), two M.2 Kingston KC3000 SSDs (1GB + 2GB), ASRock Phantom Gaming D RX 6800 XT EVGA G5 850 PSU, Lian Li Lancool II Mesh case with two extra bottom fans.

Do you own the complete SOTTR game or only the demo? I’ve experienced some issues starting the demo, but everything works smoothly now that I have the full version. It seems like the demo might be linked to an older code release, which could explain the problems.

I own the complete game. I also recently ran benchmarks on a few other titles: Total War: Warhammer 2 and Warhammer Vermintide 2. Both function perfectly. Verminetide 2 has the same problem causing my PC to restart. All these games are full versions purchased directly from the Epic store. I should note I’m using Windows 11 and just installed the latest Radeon drivers/drivers. There are no Windows updates or game patches available, so everything remains current.

I think I've fixed my problem. While checking, I found my case was still open. I performed a SOTTR benchmark with the open case running and it finished successfully. After closing the case, the test ran again and crashed—queue raised an eyebrow! I installed MSI Afterburner to monitor performance and ran multiple tests both with the case open and closed. All open cases passed, but closed cases failed. The afterburner data didn’t show extreme spikes in temperature or CPU/GPU usage, though the GPU was running warm (81-82°C). After some reflection, I recalled that earlier BIOS tweaks might have affected stability. Resetting the BIOS to defaults and running benchmarks in a closed case resolved everything. Now I’m using EXPO in BIOS for better RAM speeds, and tests are passing. The only setting left off is AI Overclocking—I probably should have kept it enabled. It seems that issue was linked to higher temperatures. This makes sense with the stock cooler working fine now. If anyone has insights on AI Overclocking, let me know. Thanks!
