Crash issue
Crash issue
Hi everyone, I hope you're all well.
Recently I've experienced some performance drops that began as minor difficulties in certain games. I initially thought it might be related to game or driver updates, and I managed to continue using some settings adjustments.
Then the issues became more frequent, making it impossible for me to play certain games.
Issue:
I installed this system back in early 2022. No overclocking. Never had temperature concerns.
First year was smooth—perfect performance.
Last year or so, occasional crashes started appearing.
In the past few months, games usually load correctly to the menu, but after a few seconds the PC stops responding normally, and sometimes a BSOD appears, accompanied by image glitches that are forced.
Temperatures never rise high enough to indicate overheating problems.
What I've tried so far:
- Tested various drivers and options.
- Removed extra SSD and reinstalled Windows 10 (clean install) on a new SSD.
- Switched to a mechanical keyboard.
- Restarted BIOS (no major changes).
- Added new RAM (also ran memtest86).
- Installed Windows 11 (as a Windows 10 user), same results.
- Performance tests with Furmark and Cinebench show temperatures under 75°C and sustained performance well above game requirements.
I'm certain it's not an overheating problem.
I've downloaded IWInfo but don't have the expertise to interpret the data.
At least the GPU reaches 250W and the CPU 60W, which isn't enough to point to my 650W PSU, I think.
A friend is bringing over another GPU for comparison.
System:
Windows 10 Pro 22H2
Ryzen 9 5900x
RTX 3080 10GB
4x32GB Patriot
2x1TB NVMe M.2 Patriot
Mobo Asus Prime B550m-k
PSU Cougart XTC 650 - Model CGR ST-650 - 80 plus.
I'd like a clear answer before considering any replacement.
I've already tried clearing all software variables.
How can I be certain which hardware component is causing the problem?
If you run out of options, replace the PSU with a quality 750W or higher model.
Unfamiliar with that unit yet did some research on it. It operates on a 588w on 12v rail, which realistically limits its capability to produce 650w for any modern computer. It seems to be a very basic or outdated design. The voltage rating is only 80+ 230v EU, indicating it barely meets the minimum requirements at optimal input voltages. This doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the main issue, but it could contribute.
Collect regulated waste, poor quality items, and inadequate protection. A completely new and significantly updated power supply is essential for this setup.
Knowing that the initial year went smoothly? Any method to confirm it before starting again?
