CPU-Z identifies multiple RAM modules, while BIOS and Windows display only one.
Completed my initial PC assembly and observed Windows only recognizing 8GB of RAM. I followed several troubleshooting steps, testing each RAM module separately to confirm functionality. When using just one stick, the system would only boot when that specific RAM was placed in the first slot—a behavior that seems normal. Eventually, it appeared the issue might be a faulty RAM slot. After installing CPU-Z, both sticks were detected correctly. Any suggestions on resolving the BIOS and Windows detection problems would be greatly appreciated.
Please verify the RAM is completely inserted into the slot. It may appear fully seated, but a slight misalignment can occur. You should notice a click when you press down into the slot.
They adjusted the rams several times, making sure to press firmly for the clasps to close and hear the click. It seemed solid enough. I’m not sure if the Z-CPU would recognize the rams if they weren’t properly seated.
Check each stick in every slot. If a stick fails in one slot, it may indicate a RAM slot issue. If a stick doesn't detect in both slots, it points to a stick problem. Try cleaning the gold contacts on the RAM and see if that resolves the issue; if not, consider replacing the board.
I've tested both RAM sticks separately in the first slot, they function fine, but no matter the arrangement nothing appears in the second slot via BIOS or Windows. It seems my main concern is why the Z-CPU manages to detect RAM while BIOS and Windows don't.
that's typical, just half detecting. when you check the timing menu it should display incomplete timings for the second slot, like maybe cl16 but no trcd, trp, or tras—so it's likely the board is dirty. you might fix it by spraying the RAM slot with 99% IPA. if it was this way when you bought it, consider replacing the board since it shouldn't be faulty out of the box. cpuz shows 5GB (five sticks) but task manager lists only 1GB usable. this is probably due to dirty CPU pads; cleaning it resolved the issue, but it still can't run at 2900% load fully. no more cursed screenshots =(
You'll need to reset the CMOS at some point. I suggest moving the nearest white connector to the blue port to enable triple channel. So far it seems the board is resisting that RAM setup.
Reminder those images aren't from my RAM—they're just something he shared for clarity.
