Considering the upgrade from your Ryzen 3500 to a 5600/5700X feels worthwhile? You're already running Apex smoothly at 144fps on your Ryzen 3500+RX 6600, and story games hold steady at 72fps. The extra cost might be justified if you want higher performance for those titles without jumping to DDR5 yet.

If you are getting the performance that you want its up to you. if your performance is good for your standards I don't see any need to

In your situation, if you're comfortable with your results, I'd monitor the used market periodically—every few months—to track when 5000 series CPUs fall below $100 prices (perhaps within about two years). Once that happens, I'd secure one.

You can purchase it for around 5600 at a very low cost.

It's best to upgrade during peak times from 3000 to 5000. I'd avoid low-tier CPUs and opt for a high-end one instead, since the next change will likely be a platform update. Extending that with a top-tier CPU will last longer.

With a 6600 I kind of doubt it.

The 3000 remains a solid choice in terms of performance. I’d hold off until around 6000 for the best upgrade, though it all comes down to how much you prioritize speed versus cost.

If it were 3600 I wouldn't, but the 3500 lacks SMT—it's a 6/6 and Apex scales to 6/12 even though it's a source title.

A solid Zen 3 model will easily beat your 3500X. I'm not being harsh—my 5600X wiped out a 3600XT in every situation.

Obtain the 5800X3D now and avoid further upgrades for at least three years or two more mid-range GPU improvements.
