CPU went from 4.2Ghz to 4Ghz

My PC is a pre-built and it game with my CPU (AMD Athlon X4 880k) @4.2Ghz, and it has been like that since I've had it, until today when I realised that it has gone to 4.00Ghz without me changing anything. Why has this happened and how can i get it back to 4.2Ghz? Thanks

BIOS might have been reinitialized, it could be overheating more which leads the CPU to throttle, or the operating system might be inaccurately reporting the speed for some reason. you should attempt using a tool like CPU-Z to verify the actual frequency your CPU is operating at.

I was thinking about a BIOS reset. Are you checking the CPU clock speed in the BIOS? When I clicked OC Tuner, the PC restarted automatically and the speed came back to 4.2GHz! Thanks.
