Hi everyone, I’m running out of time figuring out what’s going wrong with my PC. I have an Intel Core i5 7600, 16GB RAM, and a Nvidia 1070 graphics card. Used to stream games smoothly, but now even when the system is idle my CPU hits 100% usage. This is making streaming tough despite knowing it’s demanding. I’m not comfortable overclocking, so I’m avoiding that. Some friends say my processor is outdated and limiting performance, while others think my GPU might be failing, forcing the CPU to work harder. The thermal paste seems to keep things manageable, but it’s still a mystery. I’m considering upgrading to an Intel Core i7 9700 or 9700K if I can afford it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Connor.

Your processor lacks the power needed for smooth performance. Consider switching to Ryzen models such as 2700 or 3600 for better efficiency.

CPU usage is high, so you might need a different motherboard. The 7700(K) is the top option for your existing board. For a new one, consider Ryzen if you want more cores for streaming. You could also check your graphics card settings—sometimes they affect performance. Speaking of settings, maybe your streaming app’s configuration has changed?

The problem lies with your processor. It lacks sufficient power. Consider a Ryzen 5 3600 on a B450 platform.

The 7600 isn't sufficient anymore. Four cores and four threads barely reach basic performance levels. Even first-gen Ryzen chips easily outperform them initially. You require more processing power to handle anything beyond simple tasks. When it comes to upgrading, unless you can find the 7700K at a very low price (AMD has significantly reduced Intel's offerings), I'd recommend going with AMD entirely. To be honest, I used Intel for a long time because AMD couldn't match it. Now they're clearly surpassing them.

You're looking for an Intel option instead of switching to AMD. No specific model suggestions were given, but you might want to explore popular Intel processors like the Core i5 or i7 series for better performance.

Updates are expected soon in April, but Intel might postpone it. If you're committed to Intel, consider waiting a bit longer.

Sure! Your current setup should work fine with the 1070 and 3GB RAM. Just make sure your CPU and other components match the i7 requirements.

If you're keeping the motherboard unchanged, you'll likely be at your best without spending too much. The 7700K CPU works well for streaming and runs smoothly at 1080p60fps without any issues. If you wait for a new motherboard and a fresh Intel processor, that could be better. But keep in mind, new Intel chips might end up with higher prices due to supply and demand. Are you referring to the 1060 or 1070 model?
