Hey everyone, I'm using an Intel Core i9-10900X with 10 physical cores. In Task Manager, the CPU usage stays under 60% even when I assign 10 cores to a task. I'm curious if it's safe to use some of the virtual cores for my program. Right now I stick to 10 and let the system manage background tasks, but if it's fine, I'd like to try using a few more for faster performance. I also noticed the system has 10 cores and 20 logical processors—apologies for any mix-up. My main question is whether it's okay to allocate more than 10 cores to a job or keep them unused. Also, it seems the IT team has turned on overclocking. During operation, the CPU hits maximum speed until the job finishes, and I'm worried about long-term effects from keeping it at peak. The base speed is 3.70 GHz, but it often runs between 3.90 and 4.05 GHz. Is this normal or a cause for concern? Thanks, everyone.

The additional threads don't function as virtual cores; they enable cores to handle multiple tasks simultaneously because each core contains several processing units. The main reason not to utilize every thread is to prevent the operating system from becoming unresponsive due to excessive CPU load. This feature is part of Intel's built-in turbo boost. In optimal settings—such as sufficient power and low temperature—the system can reach up to 4.3GHz when all cores are active, and performance may increase further with fewer threads. What specific temperature limit are you referring to?

The CPU temperature tends to stay between 95-97°C, which is typical. For the processing units, it seems safe to assign 16 to one task while reserving 4 for background operations. Let me know if you need further clarification.

It's quite warm in this area. Four extra units would definitely be sufficient.

It was a strong push (maximum throttle at 100°C), likely the reason it didn’t hit all core turbo.
