Going with AM5 would be best to use R7 9800X3D. But since R7 5800X3D is still very capable chip, i see little reason to go with AM5. But for OP, they can achieve near or even equal performance of R7 9800X3D with R7 5800X3D, without forking out a lot of money for AM5 CPU-MoBo-RAM combo. If your power supply unit is outdated and its warranty has expired, it’s wise to upgrade it as well.
This option offers the best chance to maximize gaming performance on AM4. The 5800X3D will remain a strong performer for at least another few years, even beyond the current "AI" hype. Prices might drop slightly in a year or two... but we still don’t have that predictive insight.
Switching to AM5 will cost more upfront, but it promises longer-lasting reliability compared to AM4.
My child was eager to start his first PC, so I provided him with an AM4 platform and the 5800X3D.
I recently built an AM5 system and have a nearby Micro Center. For my CPU, I selected the 7600X3D for $199. It delivers the same gaming performance as the 5800X3D.
AMD has confirmed that Zen 6 will be compatible with AM5. Once it launches and all issues are resolved, we can replace the 7600X3D with the Zen 6. This should ensure smooth operation for many years ahead.
