I use a laptop with an i7 8565u, an mx150, and 16 GB of RAM. I enjoy playing Fortnite, but when I start the game, my CPU drops to 1.1-1.4 GHz, which is below my recommended speed of 1.8 GHz. My temperatures are around 69-72°C, and once I close the game, the CPU jumps back up to 3.5-4.5 GHz. I’m having trouble fixing this issue.
I don't have access to your current settings. Please check your system preferences or settings menu to find out the Windows power mode configuration.
It could be due to power throttling—this chip only outputs 15 watts, which isn’t much for a 4C8T. The boost speed should reach 4.6GHz. Consider changing your Windows power plan to high performance.
You can try adjusting system settings or updating drivers to prevent power throttling.
You can't, it's a laptop with a 15-watt limit—it could be pushed beyond that temporarily. Fortnite might also rely on AVX, which consumes a lot of energy. XTU or throttling could assist, though I'm not sure.
That device is an i7 8565u model. The maker can adjust its power usage, so if it operates in low power mode it’s not something to worry about. It could also mean the laptop has a strict limit on overall power draw, and when the GPU runs it forces the CPU to slow down significantly.
