AMD FX chips function in AM3+ sockets while Ryzen chips operate in AM4 slots. You can't fit a CPU designed for AM3+ into an AM4 socket due to size and key differences—some pins are blocked, and attempting insertion risks damaging both the chip and the motherboard. Each socket serves a specific role; FX processors need DDR3 support with many pins dedicated to that interface, whereas Ryzen processors require DDR4 and have additional pins for memory connections. AM4 also accommodates SATA and USB ports inside Ryzen designs, features absent in AM3+ for FX chips since those older CPUs lacked built-in USB and SATA controllers.
