Description of Issue: Occasional CPU temperature spikes reaching ~90°C. System type: Desktop, custom build. Graphics: RTX 2070, Super stock. CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X. Cooler: Wraith Prism LED. Motherboard: Crosshair hero 7 Wi-Fi. RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB), DDR4 3000MHz. Power supply: 750W, case: Thermaltake Armor+MX ATX Mid Tower. Fans: Noctua 120mm 1700rpm (rear), PSU fan (rear), Noctua 200mm 1700rpm (side), two smaller intake fans front. OS & version: Windows 10 1909. GPU drivers: Nvidia 451.67. Chipset: 5.12.0.38 (uncertain). Background apps: Steam, Discord, GeForce Experience, HWinfo64. Troubleshooting steps: Changed CPU voltage offset in BIOS to -0.1v and adjusted fan curves. Cleaned case monthly. Previously idle temps ~35°C. First incident occurred during a long gaming session (45 mins), reaching ~90°C with throttling. After restarting, temperatures stabilized around 85-60°C. Recent playthroughs (Apex, No Man's Sky, VR, etc.) showed no overheating. Current readings after reboot: peak 60.5°C, average 43.7°C. Assistance would be appreciated!
When it gets warm, verify if the CPU fan is rotating; this might indicate a loose connection or a failing fan.
The issue appears to affect No Man's Sky as well as other games; it can cause overheating across different titles.
I'm not sure if it's related to the game or another factor. I experienced something similar in Sea of Thieves during the title screen or while staying in one place for a while. It felt warm, but not too hot, and my temperature dropped when I moved around and did activities.
