CPUs don’t lose effectiveness or become necessary for several years after their launch. If you’re moving from a 9900KS, it’s still fine. If you’re looking to purchase one, skip it. A 5600X/5800X offers better speed but isn’t worth the upgrade. The same applies to 11th Gen Intel—unless you’re beginning a fresh project, avoid newer options.
Upgrade 8700K, that's where I'd do the 9900K while waiting on DDR5 mainstream. It's a hell of a processor. Thoroughly spank a 3700/3800X with it. If buying into the platform in it's entirety, there's always 11th Gen Intel or a 5800X which needs nothing short of a custom water loop it's self, which would be a better choice IMO. Situation dependent. Is there a 3rd choice? Both yes and no? Yes, it's fast and plenty of threads No, platform is dead ended twice over already.
