CPU remains at maximum speed even when idle.
I recently experimented with boosting my Ryzen 5 3600x using the multiplier option. It performs well at 4.5GHz across all six cores. But when idle, the CPU stops lowering its speed. As a beginner, I checked if a BIOS adjustment could fix this. I tried the Windows Balanced power plan, which didn’t help. I also avoided overclocking temporarily because higher idle temps are making the fans make noise. My setup includes: Ryzen 5 3600x Rog Strix B450-E Gaming RTX 2070 Be quiet! 600W Pure Power.
Manual overclocking often leads to unexpected results. Adjusting AMD Cool & Quiet (or Global C States in newer BIOS versions) and similar settings can sometimes restore normal idle performance, though it may also introduce stability problems. It's usually safer to disable them entirely. Alternatively, applying PBO on the 3600X is a reliable option.
