I am a total beginner at overclocking but chose to attempt it. My system is an AMD FX-8370 running on an Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z with the H100i cooler. My main concern is finding the optimal method to overclock this configuration and understanding the steps involved.

Download and set up these three free applications that are commonly used during overclocking: CPU-z, HWMonitor (non pro version) and Prime95.
The initial step is to perform a stress test to verify baseline temperatures before beginning the overclocking process.
Follow these steps:
1. Launch HWMonitor on your desktop and keep it running.
2. Execute a 15-20 minute Prime95 "blend" stress test.
3. Ensure all temperatures are normal or within acceptable limits. Stop Prime95 immediately if you notice anything unusual.
For more details, see the guide at http://www.overclockers.com/forums/s...d.php?t=688663
It may be a bit outdated but it remains useful for the 8370.
