Hi,
I'm trying to boost my CPU and RAM performance. I'm just starting out and want to understand the possible limits for my current setup. My specs are: CPU i7-8700k with Corsair H115i AIO cooler, GPU Aorus RX 580, MOBO Aorus Gaming 7, RAM Corsair Dominator DDR4 16GB (2x8) at 3000mhz and 3200mhz, PSU GX Bronze 550w, four 120mm fans, two 120gb SSDs and one 250gb HDD. I also have a 2TB Seagate HDD.

Your RAM is already quite fast. I wouldn't bother with it.
I still think your CPU is pretty quick too.
You might want to upgrade to an i9-9900k... which I believe is the best option for that motherboard, though I don't think it's essential.
If I were you, I'd upgrade the GPU and the PSU. I see those as the weak spots.
Your CPU can manage a more powerful GPU.

I don't have a specific resolution preference, but I operate effectively at various resolutions.
