In 2021 I enhanced the CPU, motherboard and memory in my computer. Once everything functioned properly—possibly because it was mainly used for photo editing with Photoshop and the processor wasn’t heavily taxed—I experienced a few cases where it restarted on its own. I monitored temperatures using HWMonitor and noticed the CPU was idling around the mid-50s. Assuming the cooler installation was suboptimal, I replaced the thermal paste and reattached the cooler. The idle temperature improved to the mid-30s to mid-40s. However, when running Cinebench, the temperature spikes into the high 80s and the system shuts down completely. I’m uploading a video of a Cinebench session with Ryzen Master open to display temperatures. I haven’t completed a full test yet; it restarts shortly after the second render begins. I’m unsure if there’s a fix or if the CPU is faulty. The unit was bought on March 8, 2021, so an RMA might still be an option. Any help with this issue would be appreciated.

These models usually get hot when using regular coolers. My 3600X reaches 60°C during intense gaming with the Scythe Mugen 5S.

I’d really just put around $30 in a better cooler. You’re probably overcomplicating it. The stock cooler isn’t great, and getting an RMA might not save much since you’d still need to cover shipping costs and miss out on using the CPU.

Even with a stock cooler inside a case lacking strong airflow, the CPU shouldn't restart under heavy load. I see the CPU doesn’t significantly slow down as temperatures climb—this isn’t typical for Ryzen. When temps exceed 70°C, you should begin reducing clock speeds and approach the base frequency—around 3.6GHz here. In your setup, it remains consistently at 4GHz throughout. Have you verified that all overclocking options are turned off in the BIOS? Some motherboards enable certain OC features by default to claim better performance in basic benchmarks.

He should think about adding "loading optimized defaults" to his bios first before moving on to other changes

Thanks for the timely replies. The only changes I made in the BIOS were setting the RAM XMP after the upgrade. I’m not sure exactly what I was doing. Here are some images of what I’m observing in the BIOS.
