I own a prebuilt system with a Ryzen 5 3600 that normally runs at 3.6 ghz. I suspect it was overclocked, as performance monitoring showed 4.0ghz. The issue is that my CPU temperatures during gaming stay in the high 90s. I tried reverting the overclock in BIOS but couldn’t locate it; instead, I adjusted it via Windows power settings, which lowered the temperature and stabilized the CPU to 3.49 ghz but made games unplayable and caused noticeable lag. Any suggestions on what might be wrong?

it's not overclocked; the CPU offers a boost up to 4.2GHz based on temperature and workload. Refresh the thermal paste for the CPU, ensure the CPU fan operates at the right speed, undo any underclocking by resetting the BIOS to default settings, and verify that the RAM speed is accurate afterward.

Your airflow is good. The CPU isn't overclocked, and your PC appears clean.
