CPU needed for a streaming only PC?
I was hoping to gather some insights after conducting my own research. My setup includes a gaming PC with an Intel I5 8400, Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 5 Z370, 32 GB DDR4 2400 RAM, and an EVGA RTX 2060 GPU. The PSU is an EVGA B3 650W. I also own both the latest consoles in pro versions—one PS4 and one PS4 Pro. I’m considering investing in a capture card, upgrading my current system, or building a streaming-focused machine. I have some unused components: a used Sapphire 4GB RX 570 and a brand-new Corsair 450W PSU from 2018. I could also swap out 16 GB of RAM for a new build. How much processing power do I need for streaming? I’ve seen the 3600X and 3700X models recommended for both gaming and streaming on the same rig. I’m exploring a PC tailored solely for streaming with a capture card. My current machine manages 720p at 60 FPS smoothly, but I aim for 1080p and higher bit rates. Please let me know your thoughts on the best approach.
when the streamer limit is 6000 kbps for Twitch unless you’re a partner they’ll reduce your bitrate to free up more bandwidth for their accounts so I keep at 4500 just in case. this keeps things smooth without extra costs unless you’re a full-time streamer. Both CPUs are acceptable, and anything above entry-level Zen 2 processors works fine if you choose AMD. I usually go with Intel and might use a used i5/i7. You could be better sticking to your own hardware since it’ll likely match your budget and offer newer support plus dependable performance. **EDIT** A Wraith cooler isn’t bad, but if you can afford it consider an aftermarket air or AIO cooler. It helps keep the PC running cool while streaming and prevents ambient heat from affecting stability.
