CPU I7 9700K overheating intensely at 100°C.
Hello everyone. I just finished setting up my computer about a week ago, and I noticed my temperatures are really high! Here’s what my build looks like: a 9700K cryogen H7 H7 Gigabyte Z390 gaming rig with an MSI RTX 2080 gaming trio, Corsair Vengeance 2x8 at 300MHz, a G750H NVMe SSD, NXT H500i, Samsung 860 EVO 500GB, Seagate Barracuda 2TB. If I were playing Rainbow Six Siege: Terrorist Hunt, my temps would be in the high 80s (max 89). During a Prime95 test—the toughest one—I reached around 100°C on some cores and others hit 98°C. My CPU fan was spinning nonstop at 100%, and the case was open so airflow wasn’t an issue. Can anyone help me? Greetings Zevy03. Sorry for the bad English—I’m from the Netherlands and I’m 15 years old.
It looks like the CPU might need cleaning, fresh thermal paste applied, and another attempt should be made. This could indicate a cooler seating issue or improper thermal paste use.
If that's the situation, it seems there isn't sufficient airflow in the case. Consider boosting the RPM of the case fans to improve circulation.
All three case fans operate at full capacity cooler% even when glass is removed in Prime95 CPU tests reaching 100 degrees. I’m not home right now, so I can’t perform further checks. On my way back, I’ll bring some new thermal paste and reapply it just to be safe. Thanks for all the advice!
