CPU Died in 2 Hours
Hello, I just assembled my friends' PC
with a Ryzen 5 9600X
MSI Pro B650-M
32GB DDR5 RAM
and a temporary 7970 graphics card pending installation
I powered it on for the first time and everything functioned perfectly. The BIOS checked, and its build was only a month old, so I left it if anything unusual occurred. I planned to flash the BIOS via USB and the button on the back.
It worked for one session of League Closed League, then it shut down. When I turned it back on, all debug lights flashed. I re-flashed the BIOS again. After that, I removed the PC components except the CPU. It stayed on only if the CPU wasn’t inside or if its power was connected.
I tried installing my CPU in his PC and it worked fine too. Everything flashed and then turned off again (since we have the same CPU). I’m trying to figure out what caused the CPU to fail so quickly, as I already have a replacement on the way.
he had his pc sitting on carpet i was wondering if it might have shorted, but i thought the motherboard could be affected. i didn’t notice any burns and it still works. i haven’t tested much with my cpu just to check if the bios flashed properly and if it would turn on
if the power was directed downward toward the cap, it would have created a vacuum and heat would have destroyed your PSU
Yeah, but when I inserted his CPU into my computer the issue occurred, while putting his CPU into his worked perfectly.
It doesn't have to be this problem but seems to be, this guy's CPU failed too.
Ryzen is very sensitive to vsoc—the voltage sent to the SOC that manages RAM and infinity fabric—so if the motherboard forces the RAM or runs higher clocks on anything and your CPU isn't doing well, it can stop working.

I adjusted the RAM speed to 6000 before giving it to him. You might be right about that. I’m also unsure if this is possible, especially considering the GPU is quite old; it could be that the CPU was under too much strain.
The CPU can operate at full capacity continuously as long as temperatures remain acceptable, and the system will automatically adjust power to maintain safe levels. This concern arose in the past when CPUs lacked any temperature safeguards.
