CPU attached to a cooling system.
Hi So here's an issue. I have Ryzen 5 1600 that is totally glued to its stock cooler. It has been in a system for almost 2 years. Cooler was never touched and paste was never replaced. I couldn't twist the cooler off so I just ripped it out of the socket. Yeah I know, it's a stupid thing to do intentionally, but it is what it is. But I know many cases where someone did that and nothing happened. So how do I go about divorcing this couple? I tried force, tried cutting it with a sewing thread. Nothing helps. My next plan was to try get some alcohol in there to soften the paste. Do you have any other ideas?
I would test a small amount of alcohol or Goo-Gone to reduce its hardness. Be careful not for anything to enter the pins, and I believe it should work.
I frequently encountered this problem while replacing an AMD chip. It's consistently an issue with these components. I usually relied on a flathead screwdriver, positioning it between the CPU and heatsink, then applying gentle upward force until it came loose.
Yes, but only in limited quantities. The substance has often touched my skin multiple times without causing harm or issues, though it's still important to wash hands if it comes into contact. I can assure you it hasn’t been fatal.
