I own a previous PC with an older processor. It's an I7-9700k running at 3.60ghz. Here are the details from the spec sheet:

If you go down to a certain part, it mentions something about memory.

For the memory types section it asks:
DDR4-2666 – is that the upper limit for your RAM? I have a module rated for 3000 and can be boosted to 3600. Does my RAM actually operate at 2666 instead of 3000?

ram hyperx 8gb x2 = 16gb total 3000mhz. May be overclocked to 3600mhz.

DDR4-2666 represents the highest possible boot speed. You can then modify the settings according to your motherboard's capabilities.

That's the velocity the RAM is operating at, not 2666.
